INFO
For streaming to our video channel at properties where we use Q2Q for cable instead of X1.
A dedicated PC is used as the video player, setup in the server rooms, which outputs video via HDMI to COMPONENT.
CABLE SETUP
HDMI or DP from PC to HDMI on COMPONENT/HDMI CONVERTER.
COMPONENT from COMPONENT/HDMI CONVERTER to COMPONENT on Q2Q.
PC's ethernet gets plugged into cisco so we can use it as a local remote access point onto our production network.
COMPONENT/HDMI CONVERTER needs power via micro usb cable, plugged into the computer via standard usb port.
PC/VIDEO PLAYER SETUP
First setup the PC as usual with a WERLA admin profile, and make sure splashtop streamer is installed and running. Join to Entra/Intune using company portal.
Next we must configure the computer to perform a variety of actions when powered. We need the computer to boot, log in, disable all system notifications, and play the video in full screen on loop.
Please refer to the following article for configuring automatic boot when powered: Automatic Boot When Powered
Please refer to the following article for configuring auto login after boot: Auto Login
Please refer to the following article for disabling all system notifications: Disable all Notifications
To make the video automatically launch and play, make sure you have the video saved to werla's desktop in a folder named 'HOTELVIDEO'. This can be found on sharepoint under Internal -> Documenation - Audio_Visual -> Channel Insertion. The following batch script can also be found on sharepoint, along with extra documentation and manuals.
Next, create a batch script and save it to the desktop. Save this file as 'startVideo.bat'.
PLEASE NOTE: Depending on PC, VLC may install to Program Files, or Program Files (x86). The batch file will need to be adjusted accordingly.
Copy the following code and save it to the file:
"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --fullscreen --loop --no-osd --no-video-title-show "C:\Users\Werla\Desktop\HOTELVIDEO\startVideo.bat"
Press Win + R, type shell:startup, and hit Enter.
Copy the startVideo bat file to the startup folder.
Now the display settings need to be adjusted and tested, but this cannot be done until the PC is set up in the server room, and is connected to the Q2Q via component.
Once this has been done, open settings and navigate to display. Select advanced display. Under Display information you will see information for the one connected display.
Select Display adapter options at the bottom of the display information, and in the following pop up menu select 'List All Modes'. This is a button on the bottom left of the adapter tab that will open up.
In the following pop-up window, select 1280 by 720, True Color (32 bit), 60 Hertz. This is the only output resolution the QAM supports (or at least is the highest and most regular)
Once all this has been configured you should be able to reboot your computer, and it should now behave as a video player.
To trouble shoot video not coming through, first I recommend checking all cables and resetting the Q2Q, the streaming PC, and the HDMI/COMP converter.
To further troubleshoot, remote onto the streaming PC, and go to a room with a TV, and navigate to the insertion channel. Adjust display settings and output modes until picture changes.
